What's politics got to do with modelbuilding?

Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 04:39PM
The answer is plenty.  Not only does it affect your wallet in the price you pay for kits, but even whether or not certain equipment (not just aircraft) are ever kitted in the first place.  Read the information below concerning the pending Military Toy Replica Act and then contact your Senators and Congressional Representatives.  Many defense manufacturers and demanding exhoritant royalties/fees for the privilege of producing model kits of equipment that was paid for with our (taxpayer) money.  Others have gone so far as to trademark everything down to the shape and location of rivets.  Without this bill, we will, at the very least, be paying through the nose for new kits. At the worst, we won't be seeing kits of some subjects that we want.

So don't just sit there.  Read the following information and then pick up the phone.

ACT NOW
 WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

Dear Industry Colleague:

YOUR CONTACT TO YOUR SENATORS/REPRESENTATIVES IS URGENTLY NEEDED...THE DEFENSE APPROPRIATIONS BILL IS BEING DISCUSSED NOW.  PLEASE LET YOUR LEGISLATORS KNOW HOW IMPORTANT THE MILITARY TOY REPLICA ACT IS TO OUR INDUSTRY AND TO YOUR BUSINESS.

We ask each of you to reach out to your local Senators to garner support for this worthwhile cause.

Here's what you can do:

Call the Washington DC office of the representatives on the House and Senate Armed Services lists (links to these lists are found in the upper left hand column) who represent your state. Calls to the offices are taken immediately; faxes, emails and letters will not only arrive later, but are often left for last for review.  Ask for the aide in charge of military affairs, and begin to explain the Bill as well as the talking points to promote its passing.  You are free to forward a copy of the Bill to anyone, it is open information at this time.  If you desire an email copy, please contact Mike Bass from Steven's International at mbass@stevenshobby.com. These calls take but a few minutes each.   If you receive voice mail, leave all the details of the Bill, the reason for the support needed and your name and number for a return call.   Follow up later if necessary.

We hope you will take a few minutes to show your support for the hobby industry by making a phone call TODAY.

Sincerely,

Pat K Signature
