For those of you who are somewhat curious about yours truly, a bit of background. My name is Richard Marmo, I’m 65 years old (d.o.b. December 10, 1942) and I’ve been building models of one kind or another as a hobby for the last 58 and a business for the last 41. While my first love and personal preference is aviation/aerospace (especially WW-II), followed closely by Science Fiction, it’s very easy for me to become deeply interested in models of any subject you care to name. A freelance writer/professional model builder since 1967, my articles on modelbuilding have appeared in magazines in both the U.S. and England. In the course of the last 41 years, I’ve authored over 500 articles, including regular kit review columns, as well as articles on airport management, aviation history and home improvement. Also have three books on modelbuilding to my credit (one being out of print), four CD-ROMs on aviation history and one CD-ROM on modelbuilding. And I’ve built well in excess of 1,000 models.
The CD-ROMs are called B-36:Saving The Last Peacemaker (1st & 2nd editions), Lockheed P-38 Lightning Gallery, B-36:Moving The Last Peacemaker and How To Build Wilco! Models Prop Replicas. My three print books are Building Plastic Model Aircraft (now out of print), How To Build And Modify Resin Model Aircraft Kits & How To Build Sci-Fi Space Vehicles (both available from Specialty Press).
I'm also the driving force behind The Modeler's Weapons Shop, Scale Publications and Model Building Services By Richard Marmo websites. And I maintain several blogs that have absolutely nothing to do modelbuilding.
Photos of me can be found in any of the print books and head shots have appeared with many of my review columns. There's also a photo of me on my Model Building Services site, though it is way out of date. It was taken some 20 years ago and I don't look anywhere near that young any more, though still younger than my actual age.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, I've lived in several places including Ft. Worth, Texas (twice), the Bronx, New York and Vallejo, California. I've been in Ft. Worth, Texas the second time around for the last 47 years.
I'm about 6'1", 184 pounds, brown hair, hazel eyes, love animals (particularly dogs and cats) and have never married (Mainly due to having never found the right lady.).
